I just saw Inception and loved it. However, it reminded me of another movie I saw in middle school. I thought to myself, man there is no way that Christopher Nolan, the guy who came up with Memento and reinvented Batman, could rip-off someone else’s work?
Come on man, did you not think we would not notice? I imagine that some directors just sit around all day wondering how to explain a fight scene out of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon without having to use something stupid like magic. I mean I don’t think they ever even explain what the fuck is happening in Crouching Tiger; they just start jumping around all crazy and it is bad ass. I imagine that the Wachowski Brothers were smoking a ton of pot while playing video games while they probably uttered the words “DUDE, what if we were IN the game?”
Its not that I am angry about these fight scenes, I wish there were more of them. Even cooler, apparently they had to construct a moving hallway in Inception for ‘Arthur’ to battle in. I would pay $5 just to try and run through that thing.
Ok, I won’t lie. At the beginning of both ‘The Matrix’ and ‘Inception’ I had no idea what the hell was going on. I like it that way. Both movies had crazy fight scenes right at the beginning, both gave you no indication of how all that crazy stuff was able to happen, and both movies started with a device we had no idea how it worked.
In the matrix you apparently could somehow stick a needle into your neck, not unlike a giant USB cord, and get matrix connectivity. OK, I mean I guess in the future we can all just plugin, but if we had that kind of technology, we couldn’t invent something that was a little bit less painful? I guess ‘the machines’ invented it, whatever. In Inception, they just have this sweet suitcase that they sit next to and plug their arm into it, not unlike an IV. If I walked in on them doing this I would think I just walked into a heroin party.
The Matrix brought us the gun room, basically a giant crazy room full of guns, where Neo can pick and choose whatever the hell he wants. It does not matter that he can only fire two weapons at once, he just so happens to stick guns on every crevice of his body.
To top this, Nolan had to come up with something even more awesome. Apparently the ‘dreamer’ in any ‘dream state’ can just ‘dream’ up whatever gun he wants. Eames: “You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.”
Ok, yeah, I guess you could say any movie with guns ripped off some other movie with guns back until they were invented. I don’t know where it all started, probably somewhere with American Icon John Wayne. But Inception should have just pressed this issue. Why the hell did they not dream up some frigin awesome flame thrower or gatling gun, only Eames had any balls.
